Islamabad, April 29, 2026 — In a landmark step toward modernizing the justice system, the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee (NJPMC) has issued National Guidelines for the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Judicial Institutions. Approved in its 57th meeting, the Guidelines establish a clear and principled framework for integrating AI into judicial processes across the country.
At a time of increasing caseloads and growing demands for efficiency and transparency, the Guidelines position AI as an assistive tool—enhancing judicial performance while preserving human judgment, constitutional safeguards, and judicial independence.
The framework has been developed through an extensive consultative process led by the National Judicial Automation Committee (NJAC), incorporating feedback from all High Courts and expert institutions. It aligns with international best practices while remaining rooted in Pakistan’s constitutional and institutional context.
While setting a unified national standard, the Guidelines respect the administrative and judicial autonomy of High Courts, allowing each jurisdiction to tailor implementation according to its needs.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s judicial reform journey—balancing technological innovation with the enduring principles of justice, fairness, and independence.
